Hey there internet stranger. Yeah, part of my meditations on gaze there come from the trans and therian parts of my relationship. The body that's there and the body that could be (that they want to be), and the ways they both affect the person and your relationship with them. It's complicated but it's just sort of the fabric of things - no one's body is Exactly as they'd wish it, it's just a matter of how big the gap between is. and how that gap feels.
That perception-sharing thing is something I'd do extremely rude things to have, yeah. I am kind of already caught up in perception in a lot of ways - some of my baby dysphoria manifested as constantly looking at myself in mirrors or reflective surfaces and trying to see the ways I moved, trying to resolve that jarring disconnect. And the double consciousness that DuBois talks about is alive and well for me too, though unlike the experience of Black folks my second consciousness is mostly one of foreignness and strangeness rather than racialized hatred. (Not that the second doesn't exist for me and my folks, but. It sure isn't as immediate or physical.) But yeah, I often feel the strong desire to be able to share direct perspective, to get people into my shoes, and also to be able to see myself from the outside. There's that long-running Animorphs/HDM crossover series that's more or less done save the epilogue, and one of the canon diversions it makes is having Rachel and Tobias both morph Yeerk and infest each other as a way of sharing intimacy within their romantic relationship. And I think before I encountered plurality that fic captured the perspective- and mind-sharing vibe more directly than anything ever had before (save I guess drifting from Pacific Rim, but like. Prose I think captures it far better than anything else).
